Thirst is basically a sign of dehydration. When a person feels thirsty, in fact he has started to become dehydrated.

There are several ways that Muslims can do to avoid thirst and dehydration during Ramadan. The following are five of them, as reported by the Egypt Independent:

Maintain adequate drinking water intake from breaking the fast until dawn. During this time, try to drink one or two cups of water every hour.

In order not to forget to drink, take advantage of the reminder feature on your phone. You can also apply the habit of drinking while watching television commercials

2. Choice of clothes

During fasting, it is advisable to avoid exposure to heat and keep the body as cool as possible. Therefore, the color, type of fabric, and the number of layers of clothing used during fasting need to be considered carefully.

Avoid wearing black clothes when you are outdoors. The reason is that black clothes tend to attract heat and lock it close to the body.

Wearing undershirts or layered clothes in hot weather also increases the risk of dehydration. Undershirts that absorb sweat can gradually become wet and hot and increase body temperature

3. Take a cold shower

After a few days of fasting, thirst will usually become something that feels normal. Therefore, it is important to monitor other signs of dehydration such as chapped lips, fatigue, increased body temperature, to increased heart rate and breathing followed by feeling dizzy.

In this situation, try to reduce body temperature in various ways. One of them is soaking in cool water for 5-10 minutes. Avoid using water that is too cold, such as ice water.

But if you're in a public place and it's impossible to take a shower or bath, use a cold compress as an alternative. Wet a towel with ice water, then compress the forehead area, around the ears, under the neck, over the back, and chest

4. Plan the meal menu

The type of food consumed also affects the hydration of the body. Foods that are high in sugar can trigger dehydration, while fruits can help hydrate the body.

Therefore, it would be better if you break your fast with sweet fruits rather than sweet foods. Green salad is also good for providing extra fluids for the body

5. Exercise at the right time

Fasting in Ramadan is not a barrier to exercise. However, it is important to determine the right time to exercise so as not to become dehydrated while fasting. One of the recommended times to exercise is two or three hours after breaking the fast so that you can still drink while exercising.
